Unions Help Migrant Workers Collect Wages

In the two months leading up to the 2015 Spring Festival, trade union organizations in Sichuan province handled 570 labour dispute cases involving 7,726 migrant worker and claimed back unpaid wages, industrial injury compensation, social security payments to the tune of 102 million yuan.

In November 2014, Sichuan Provincial Trade Union Federation issued the Circular on Resolving the Problem of Unpaid Wages for Migrant Workers. Meanwhile, the trade union federation announced a plan to set up a worker protection mechanism in collaboration with 10 government departments. In addition, they wrote letters or made phone calls to trade unions in other provinces, appealing to them to help migrant workers from Sichuan province in their localities.

To help migrant workers get back their unpaid wages, Sichuan Trade Union Federation opened a hotline besides offering legal aid on its micro blog. So far, the hotline has received 186 calls.
