So far, 16,488 enterprises in Binhai New Development Zone in China’s port city of Tianjin have set up unions, accounting for 91.2% of the total. Of these, 10,850 have signed collective wage agreements.
Since the beginning of 2014, trade unions in the development zone have been launching innovative initiatives to promote unionization and collective bargaining. Up to now, 15,000 enterprises have demanded collective bargaining, some 94% of the total. In the first half of the year, trade unions handled 1,200 labour disputes on workers’ behalf.
