A delegation from Belgium's ACV/CSC trade union federation headed by its President, Marc Leemans, came to China in April 7-18, 2014. The delegation visited Guangdong, Shanghai, Suzhou and Beijing. In Guangzhou province, the delegation had a workshop with Shenzhen Municipal Trade Union Council on "Union Participation on Democratic Management", and visited Foxconn factory and Shenzhen North Railway Station, where they met and talked with workers. On 16 April 2014, ACFTU Vice-Chair Chen Hao met the ACV/CSC President Marc Leemans. Chen gave the delegation a general picture of China's political and economic situation. Labour relations, he said, are getting increasingly complicated amid globalization, being affected by burgeoning uncertainties. In spite of this, Chinese trade unions are doing what they can to protect workers.
Chen added that Chinese trade unions attach great importance to friendly relations with the ACV/CSC . In recent years, the two organizations have maintained exchanges of high-level visits as well as communication and coordination on international occasions. He hoped that these friendly and cooperative relations will further develop and deepen.
In Beijing, the delegation had a working session with the ACFTU, discussing on the challenges facing the trade unions movements and how the unions should work together in response; visited the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, where Vice-Minister Qiu Xiaoping presented the general situation of industrial relations in China and the situation of rural migrant workers; and visited the China Institute of Industrial Relations, where Marc Leemans gave a lecture on International Labour Standards. The delegation also visited Beijing Zhicheng Migrant Workers Legal Aid and Research Center and Beijing Workers Service Center.
